Red

.
Red is the color of magic in every country, and has been so from the very earliest times. The caps of fairies and magicians are well-nigh always red.
—W.B. Yeats, Fairy and Folk Tales of Ireland

blood wine
bottles bodies
their magic gushes
to face-off death
and doldrums
pop either’s cork
and sanguine rivers flow

each is heady
each have mystical moieties,
have subterranean properties
blood and wine find their way
into fabulous mythologies,
hagiographies of sinners
and sinner’s colloquies
and each have their aftermath
their spinning down
their coming-to
as drunks awake
mouthing apologies
of bodies on binges
swung heads on hinges
(shut/ajar)

flashbacks of siren sways
of dogma sips

light-headedness
pathologies
cringes
fits
