A Question of “Leaves”

leaves in wind

Is it coincidence or did
the English Minister of Speech,
being playfully sinister,
marry two meanings
of that word (at least) :

…… the leaves which turn
…… from green in fall
…… and the sadder leave
…… by which we fall to knees ?

Why enfold them both
in one embrace to be
meta-morphed by poets so
to wrap in one glad/sad grace
everything that comes and goes:

……a noun that hangs till brittle brown
…… and a verb that says: disappearing
…… with a final breeze?
