Muezzin’s Call

sand castles dry as mudcakes, smooth as bone
their stubborn buttresses and conical hats
baked to architectural perfectionsand mosque
springing from spare desert flats
their silent utterances between
passionate calls from minarets,
predilection, singing: one god
only, one and only one —god only,
insisting no one hedge their bets
