Trickle-down Economy

Bartender answers phone, wine glasses overhead
in black rack upside-down like crystalline bats
bellike bodies with slim stems in barlight
glistening above a menu stack
glistening over her coiffed head

long before dawn will crack,
hours before her bed will meet her back.

Rough start, single mom,
one kid, base pay plus tips,
deck stacked, enough said

except that she and child and time
