go nowhere
do not exit the moment
—as if you could
look homeward, Angel
—which is difficult
even when you’ve no choice
embedded as you are in what is
essential to it? ah, but
that’s another question
yesterday I tilled a bit of ground
10 x 20 feet or so, led by force of life
through a thicket of years, without clear design,
without known plan, to an hour of fluffing hard earth
by means of internal combustion and steel
for the pleasure of savoring beets in another corner of eternity,
one outside my range of vision, a corner called future, which,
if I find myself there, will still be now
staycation (as one option of many)
is just another misreading
of the book of life
