Same Root

               the prayer paradox

The French call a wound a blessure;
but a wound delivered by god,
could be a blessing for all we know.

If so,
couldn’t a blessing be a blessure?

Certainly. Depending upon
who’s the wounded one,
him or me.

If it’s him,
that’s a blessing for me
(as when I’m the only one alive
after a bombing);
but for him my blessing
is nothing but a
goddam lethal blessure.

French or not,
blessing or blessure,
this logic has been
a norm of history

—our eternal
deja vu du jour.
