Details of a Mountain Meadow

The details of a mountain meadow are
as numbered as the seed tufts of dandelions
longing to be dispersed by a breath of wind,
and regal as white petals of Queen Ann’s Lace
high-perched upon slim green stalks as if
surveying the luxury of her kingdom of life
reaching for the next peak upheld by
leafy peasants, forest-thick, leaves new,
green, hardy, sustaining everything,
doing the essential work of transformation
—of turning light to life and matter
