Rockaway River —Boonton, ’56

With silt-laden foam
through a rock-jammed door
t
he river falls through a gorge
singing thunder              

sending spray
high enough to soak
the helmet of my pompadour
so well coiffed for this rock ‘n roll day

—standing on an outcropped rock
over seething H₂O dancing
to the rhythms of Inertia & Gravity;
raising the hairs on the back of my neck
sending tremblers up my spine
in the exhilaration of

the

l
