The petty knots
we tangle ourselves in
can strangle a nation.
Small thoughts. Big men.
Tear a world apart.
Undue attention to motes, with
beams the size of wars in our eyes.
The question posed in the news:
Was Lincoln gay?
Who’s asking? And who’s
business is it anyway?
If petty knots and small talk
strangle the conversation,
in small minds small thoughts
will grow in the dark.
